Surrey Cantata

Director - Professor Sebastian Forbes

Sebastian Forbes, well known to Guildford audiences, formed Surrey Cantata in 2008. Prominent in the choir's short history have been four tours to North Brittany, regular concerts in both biennial music festivals in Guildford, and church services including annual appearances at Southwark Cathedral.

In this programme, in which Forbes directs from the chamber organ, Vivaldi's evergreen Gloria is prefaced by Buxtehude's charming Magnificat and Bach's Cantata 158 Der Friede sei mit dir in which the soloist is the Festival's founder-chairman, Peter Terry.

Sebastian Forbes is Emeritus Professor of Music at the University of Surrey. He has always been active with choirs; other choirs include Vox Chamber Choir (Farnham), the Nativity Singers (for the Wintershall Christmas performances) and Clandon Singers (at East and West Clandon), where he is organist. He is also a composer (see both editions of The New Grove, 1981 and 2000) and a CD producer (mostly for ABRSM syllabus music).
