The Santiago String Quartet
The quartet was formed in 2008. It is the successor to Cuarteto Genesis of which violist Suzanne and cellist Jonathan were founder members when they were living and working in Yucatan, Mexico. It was there that their passion for serious contemporary Latin music was born. They discovered repertoire which is rarely or never performed in the UK, promotion of which is now the primary work of the Santiago Quartet.
Recent performances include collaborations with singer-songwriter Ana Silvera at the Purcell Room and live on Radio 3 and as part of Guildford Spring Music Festival with a programme “From the Americas.”
Following their first collaborative recitals at Bolivar Hall and St Martin-in-the-Fields in the 2010/11 season with Ahmed Dickinson, the Santiago Quartet produced an album of works by Leo Brouwer, Miguel del Aguila and Javier Alvarez. This album was released in September 2011 and is available from sources including iTunes, HMV and www.amazon.co.uk.
Their programme will feature Latin music by del Aquilia, Piazzolla and David Stock, together with Will Todd’s lyrical Birthday Quartet which was commissioned for the GSMF Chairman’s “significant birthday” in 2011.
