Founded by Jonathan Hennessey-Brown on his return to the UK from Mexico, the Santiago String Quartet brings its N & S American back ground to its programming, including an intimate knowledge of the interpretation of the traditional rhythms of the Latin American dances.

Matthew Elston, violin, began playing the violin at the age of six and went on to study at the Royal College of Music in London with Professor Rodney Friend, graduating in 1999. Since then he has become a highly regarded orchestral and chamber musician as a member of the English Chamber Orchestra and guest principal second violin of both the English Chamber Orchestra and English National Ballet Orchestra. 

Emma Blanco, violin, studied with Yossi Zivoni & Rodney Friend at the Royal College of Music, graduating in 2003. She now freelances in London and the South. In 2003 Emma was appointed leader of the National Musicians’ Symphony Orchestra and has also led the London Soloists’ Chamber Orchestra in concerts at the Purcell Room, St-Martins-in-the-Fields and St John’s, Smith Square. Emma is also working with internationally-renowned guitarist Tom Kerstens as part of GPlus, performing and premiering many new works by composers including Joby Talbot, John Metcalfe and Max Richter.  

Suzanne Evans, viola, is a native of Long Island, New York. She graduated from the Shenandoah Conservatory in 2001 and furthered her studies at the Carnegie Mellon University School of Music under the direction of Cyrus Forough and Toby Appel, Suzanne has also performed in various ensembles all over the east coast of the United States, including the Opera Theater of Pittsburgh, the Maryland Symphony, the Wheeling Symphony, and the Milbrook Orchestra.  

Jonathan Hennessey-Brown, cello, graduated from the Royal College of Music with Honours in 1997. He immediately embarked upon a busy free-lance career working with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, the drum and bass band “4 Hero” and numerous orchestras across the country. Jonathan founded the string quartet Cuarteto Genesis whilst living in Mexico.  Since his return to the U.K. in January 2008, Jonathan has been appointed as a member of the Carl Rosa Opera Company, performed various chamber music recitals and played live on Radio 1 for the Live Lounge with Jo Whiley.
